Program Description
The Technology Department at Sinclair provides the opportunity for all grade nine students to explore broad-based technology areas and to develop themes and projects that will integrate with their academic subjects. Grade ten through twelve students have the opportunity to pursue one or more areas of study based on their interests and career goals. Students who successfully complete 8 Technology credits recieve a Technology Certificate upon graduation.

There are 7 major areas of study that the Technology department focuses on.

The first is grade nine Integrated Technology. This nine week introduction to technology acquaintes the students to many of the areas of study offered as an option in grade ten. Hydraulics, pneumatics, simple machines, drawing programs, and learning how to safely use a large variety of tools and machines are just part of this popular program.

The second area is Technological Design. This course focuses on Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) applications. Interior Design, Architecture, and Engineering utilizing 3-D modelling to design and build models of real world projects are all covered here.

The third area of study is Communications. Here, students are introduced to and may specialize with the latest computer animation software, digital photography/video and editing equipment, computer graphics, and claymation videos.

The fourth area is Transportation. This combines automotive, small engines, and recreation vehicles with challenges for students to investigate alternate forms of transportion and vehicular propulsion. As an advanced learning portion of this course, students may choose to take Aviation.
Grade twelve students will get hands on experience with the mechanical and avionics equipment on our single engine aircraft hangared at the local airport.

Our Culinary Arts program incorporates a modern, professionally equipped kitchen with a dining room that can serve moderate sized groups. Students will develop hospitality skills from the experience of running a working restaurant model.

Our sixth branch is Building Construction. Our modern facility allows us to build small and medium scale structures as well as fine furniture projects. Mechanical and electrical systems which comply with current building codes are also covered.

Lastly, Sinclair's three computer courses offer many avenues of specialization. The Computer Engineering courses develop hardware/electronics and programming skills to apply to computer interfacing projects like motor control, SMART houses, and robotics. Our Programming courses teach industry related languages such as Visual Basic and C++ which allows the students to write programs for many applications.

The CISCO networking course offered in grades eleven and twelve introduces students to the world of networking. LAN and WAN system design, building, and trouble shooting are covered in this On-Line course.

The Technology Department is actively involved with the school and community. Some of its projects have involved the Building Construction students making furniture and exterior building structures. The Culinary Arts program provides catering services for local organizations and special events, sometimes for more than 100 satiated guests. Transportation has been involved with the Skills Canada competitions. Communications students have filmed and edited numerous plays, presentations and sports events, as well as taking part in video competitions. Technological Design has competed in a number of Design competitions with students around the world. Our department prides itself with the number and scope of real world, up to date, projects our students are exposed to and have excelled at.

Preparation for the Future
Future careers opportunities for students will link with Apprenticeship Trade programs, College programs, and Industry and Engineering programs at University.
